Welcome to Gloucester Health Access Centre (GHAC)

The GHAC has been developed by NHS Gloucestershire and Gloucester GP Consortium, a group of clinicians from local surgeries who are committed to improving access at increasing the range of health promotion and medical health services in the area.

Opening Hours

8am – 8pm every day of the year including Sundays and Bank Holidays at St Michaels Surgery, St Michaels Square, Gloucester

Who can attend?

Everyone can attend the GHAC as a non registered patient. For example, if you work in Gloucester but live elsewhere, you may find it convenient to attend the GHAC for some health care. You will remain registered with your own GP as normal. This service is open to anyone who lives in Gloucester, the surrounding areas and to visitors. In addition, people who live in central Gloucester can choose to register with GHAC for their GP services.

Do I need an appointment?

No – you do not need to make an appointment; you can just turn up if you wish. However we would encourage you to make an appointment for your own convenience and to reduce any waiting time.

How to make an appointment

Ring 01452 336290.

Our receptionists are available from 8am to 8pm. Please be prepared to give brief details of your health condition or the service you want to access. Our appointments are timed to last 15 minutes on average. If we are closed and you need to be treated urgently there is an Out of Hours medical service available. You can access the service by calling: 08454 220220. NHS Gloucestershire Care Services also operates an evening and night nursing service. You can access this by calling 08454 220555. An A&E department is available 24hrs a day at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for people who are seriously unwell.

Parking

There is no dedicated parking at the surgery but patients can be dropped off at the door. There is meter parking and pay and display parking near the surgery. The nearby street meter parking is currently free of charge after 6pm and on Sundays.

Disability Access

There is ramped access to the surgery and a disabled persons toilet within the building. All of the consultation rooms are on the ground floor. Patients who have language difficulties If you do not have use of English, and are unable to bring a friend or relative to translate, we can access a telephone based translation service. Please ask a friend or relative to contact us in advance so that we can make sure that the facilities are available.

Special Needs If you have special needs of any kind then please contact our Reception, or ask a friend or relative to do so in advance and we will do our best to make sure that your needs are met when you attend the surgery.

The services that we provide:

  • Full general medical services
  • Contraception and sexual health
  • Blood pressure & weight checks
  • Well-man and well-woman checks
  • Child Health checks
  • Chronic Disease Management e.g. asthma, diabetes

Is there a charge?

Our services are provided under the NHS and so are free of charge for anyone entitled to NHS care. There are a small number of areas of service (some travel vaccinations for example) which are not covered under the NHS and we would have to charge you in the same way as any other practice. We will tell you in advance if any charge applies.

If you are visiting from abroad and not entitled to care under the NHS, we can provide you with care but there will be a charge.
